Frequently Asked Questions
What is home stewardship, actually?
People usually ask me this in the first thirty seconds of a conversation, so let's start there.
A looked-after home looks after you. That's the whole idea. Stewardship isn't really about the house — it's about caring for the people living in it, and the house is how that care shows up. It's fixing what's broken, moving what's in the way, checking what needs attention before it becomes a problem, and communicating about all of it along the way. I show up on a recurring schedule, get to know your home over time, and work from that relationship rather than one call at a time.
Is a steward like a handyman?
Not really. A handyman comes when something breaks, fixes it, and leaves — no history, no plan, no next visit on the calendar. A steward shows up on a recurring schedule, knows your home over years, and works from a running list rather than a single call. The work in the moment might look the same. The relationship around it isn’t.
What do you repair or install?
Carpentry is the core of it — fixing doors and windows, kitchen cabinets, gates, decks. From there: installing plumbing fixtures and lighting, patching leaks, addressing foundation cracks and drywall. And the softer side too — lawn care, painting, organizing. Whatever the list needs that visit.
What is a session, and how long does it run?
A session is a recurring timeslot — a set block on the calendar that’s yours, visit after visit, rather than a one-off appointment you book each time. Each session runs four hours.
What if a task takes longer than four hours?
Some tasks and items on the list can simply wait until the next session. If that’s a problem — the job needs to get done sooner — I can book extra hours to finish it when I’m available.
How often do sessions happen?
Monthly, biweekly, or weekly — whichever fits your home. The list usually decides it: if it’s piling up, we meet more often; if it’s staying short, monthly is plenty. ..
Can I skip a session?
Yes. If you’re away or don’t need the visit, we cancel it — no charge for time not spent.
Can you work while I'm away?
Yes, with your permission. Some clients prefer it that way — the work gets done without needing to be home for it.
How is billing tracked?
Billing goes out monthly, based on how often you’re booked. A session is $300, so a monthly visit is $300 a month, biweekly is $600 a month, and weekly is $1,200 a month. Everything I do is logged, so you’ve got a full online history to look back on.
Do you take on larger projects?
We can talk about it. Occasionally I’ll take one on directly, but more often my role is managing the process — getting quotes, coordinating trades, keeping it on track.
What areas do you serve?
Point Grey, Kitsilano, and Dunbar, primarily. I keep this area tight on purpose — I’d rather spend my time working and helping the people I already know than sitting in traffic getting to the next job. That said, I do travel outside the area for clients when it’s for them — picking up or delivering materials, sourcing something specific, running down a part. The line I draw isn’t “I never leave,” it’s “I don’t take on new homes far from here.”
What if I need something you don't do?
Firstly, I will let you know if it is out of my scope or ability. Then I will manage the work with an eye for what you want.
How do we move forward?
I come over and we have a relaxed conversation with no time limit and no cost to you. I come see the house, we talk about what you need, and figure out together whether a recurring arrangement makes sense for both of us. The goal is to build a trusted relationship that serves us for years to come.
